Privacy, plainly
What this site collects, why, who touches it, and how to make it stop. Written to be read, not to hide things.
Effective date: July 2, 2026
Straight talk: this site collects very little about you, and this page tells you exactly what, why, and what your rights are. No legalese walls, no hidden surprises — just everything the law (rightly) says you should know.
Who is responsible for your data
Daily Focus Ritual (dailyfocusritual.com) is run by Ádám Déri (Adam Deri), a private individual based in Budapest, Hungary. For anything privacy-related, email [email protected].
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), I am the "data controller" for this website. This is a one-person operation: no data protection officer is required, and I am based in the EU, so no EU representative is needed either.
The short version
- The only data you ever actively give this site is your email address — and only if you choose to sign up for the newsletter and free guide.
- Like every website, the servers that deliver these pages briefly see technical data such as your IP address, for security reasons.
- I don't sell your data, I don't profile you, and there are no analytics or advertising cookies today. If that ever changes, you will see a consent banner before anything non-essential is set.
What I collect, why, and on what legal basis
Newsletter and free guide — your email address
If you enter your email in the signup form, I collect that email address to send you the free guide and the newsletter, which starts with a welcome series of roughly 11 emails. The form is provided by MailerLite, the email platform I use.
Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw that consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email, or by writing to [email protected]. Withdrawing is as easy as signing up, and it doesn't affect the lawfulness of anything that happened before you withdrew.
One thing worth knowing: like most email platforms, MailerLite records whether emails are opened and which links are clicked. I use this only to see what content is useful and to keep the list healthy.
Server logs — your IP address
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare's servers automatically process technical data — your IP address, browser type (user agent), and access timestamps — in server logs. This happens on every website you visit; it is how the internet delivers pages and blocks attacks.
Legal basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) in keeping the site secure, stable, and available. Cloudflare keeps these logs only for a short period under its own retention policy, and I never use them to try to identify individual visitors.
Fonts
The fonts on this site are self-hosted — they are served from this site's own hosting, and your browser makes no font requests to Google or any other third party.
Legal basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) in displaying the site's typography consistently. If the fonts are ever moved onto this site's own server — so that nothing is sent to Google at all — this section will be updated to say so.
The free tools — nothing leaves your device
The focus timer and sound mixer on this site run entirely in your browser. They collect no data. Your timer preferences are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device and are never transmitted anywhere. You can clear them at any time through your browser settings.
Do you have to provide any data?
No. You can browse everything on this site without giving me anything. Your email address is needed only if you want the free guide and newsletter delivered to you — that's the whole trade.
Who helps me run this site (service providers and recipients)
I use a small number of services in connection with this site. Here is who they are and what role they play:
- MailerLite (UAB "MailerLite", Vilnius, Lithuania, EU) — my email platform and data processor: it stores newsletter signups and sends the emails on my behalf. See the MailerLite Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) — hosting and content delivery, acting as my processor; sees IP addresses in server logs as described above. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
- Google LLC (USA) — receives your IP address when the fonts load, as described above. Google is not my processor for this; it handles that data under its own privacy policy.
- Mediavine, Inc. (USA) — planned, not yet active: analytics (Grow by Mediavine) and possibly display advertising. This will only go live together with a consent banner (see the cookies section below).
Companies you deal with directly (not my processors)
Some links on this site take you to companies that are responsible for their own data handling:
- Gumroad, Inc. (USA) — when you buy the Focus Kit, Gumroad is the seller ("merchant of record"). Your payment details, order data, and delivery are handled entirely by Gumroad under its own privacy policy and terms. I never see your payment information.
- ClickBank (USA) — some links on this site are affiliate links that go through ClickBank. These links carry a tracking parameter so the seller knows the referral came from me. Once you click through, ClickBank's privacy policy applies.
Cookies and local storage
Here is the honest current state:
- The MailerLite signup form script may set functional identifiers (such as ml_guid, plus small values that remember whether you have already seen or submitted a form). These exist so the form works properly — they are not advertising trackers.
- The free tools store your preferences in local storage on your device only, as described above.
- There are no analytics or advertising cookies on this site today.
Analytics: this site uses Grow by Mediavine (Mediavine, Inc., US) for reader features and audience analytics — but only if you say yes. Grow sets cookies and identifiers, so it loads exclusively after you click "Allow" in the cookie banner; if you decline (or ignore it), the script never loads and the site works exactly the same. You can change your mind any time via the "Cookie choice" link in the footer, and consent you give can be withdrawn the same way.
Data leaving the EU
Some of the services I use are based in the United States: Cloudflare, Google, and — once active — Mediavine. Where your data reaches them, the transfer is protected by their certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (covered by an EU adequacy decision) and, where needed, by EU Standard Contractual Clauses under GDPR Art. 46.
Gumroad and ClickBank are also US companies, but you interact with them directly, and they are responsible for their own transfer safeguards under their own privacy policies linked above.
How long I keep your data
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Unsubscribing stops all emails immediately; if you also want your data fully erased rather than just marked as unsubscribed, email me and it will be deleted.
- Server logs: retained by Cloudflare only for a short period under its own retention policy, then deleted.
- Local storage on your device: under your control; clear it anytime in your browser.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can, at any time and free of charge:
- ask what data I hold about you (access);
- have it corrected (rectification);
- have it deleted (erasure);
- have its processing restricted;
- receive it in a portable format (data portability);
- object to processing based on legitimate interest;
- withdraw consent at any time — this doesn't affect processing that happened before you withdrew.
Just email [email protected] and I'll handle it.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Hungary that is the NAIH — Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (www.naih.hu). If you live elsewhere in the EU, you can complain to your local data protection authority instead.
Things I don't do
- I don't sell your personal data. To anyone. Ever.
- I don't use automated decision-making or profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects on you (GDPR Art. 22).
- This site is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a child has signed up, email me and I'll delete the data.
Changes to this policy
If how this site handles data changes — for example, when analytics go live — I'll update this page and the effective date at the top. The current version is always at this address.
Questions? [email protected] — a real person reads it.
