Straight talk: this site collects very little about you, and this page tells you exactly what, why, and what your rights are. No legalese walls, no hidden surprises — just everything the law (rightly) says you should know.
Who is responsible for your data
Daily Focus Ritual (dailyfocusritual.com) is run by Ádám Déri (Adam Deri), a private individual based in Budapest, Hungary. For anything privacy-related, email hello [at] dailyfocusritual.com.
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), I am the "data controller" for this website. This is a one-person operation: no data protection officer is required, and I am based in the EU, so no EU representative is needed either.
The short version
- Your task text and tool preferences stay on your device. Your email address is needed only if you choose to sign up for the newsletter and free guide.
- Like every website, the servers that deliver these pages briefly see technical data such as your IP address, for security reasons.
- Anonymous daily counts are optional. Choose "Stats only" or "Allow both" to enable them; browser Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals keep these counts off.
- I don't sell your data or build visitor profiles. Grow uses cookies and loads only after an explicit opt-in. You can change either choice through "Privacy choices" in the footer.
What I collect, why, and on what legal basis
Newsletter and free guide — your email address
If you enter your email in the signup form, I collect that email address to send you the free guide and the newsletter, which starts with a welcome series of roughly 11 emails. The form is provided by MailerLite, the email platform I use.
Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw that consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email, or by writing to hello [at] dailyfocusritual.com. Withdrawing is as easy as signing up, and it doesn't affect the lawfulness of anything that happened before you withdrew.
One thing worth knowing: like most email platforms, MailerLite records whether emails are opened and which links are clicked. I use this only to see what content is useful and to keep the list healthy.
Server logs — your IP address
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare's servers automatically process technical data — your IP address, browser type (user agent), and access timestamps — in server logs. This happens on every website you visit; it is how the internet delivers pages and blocks attacks.
Legal basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) in keeping the site secure, stable, and available. Cloudflare keeps these logs only for a short period under its own retention policy, and I never use them to try to identify individual visitors.
Fonts
The fonts on this site are self-hosted — they are served from this site's own hosting, and your browser makes no font requests to Google or any other third party.
Legal basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) in displaying the site's typography consistently.
The free tools — local preferences and optional counts
The focus timer and sound mixer run in your browser. Your task text and tool preferences stay on your device and are not sent to the statistics service. Preferences saved in local storage can be cleared through your browser settings. The tools work without enabling either optional statistics or Grow.
Optional anonymous daily counts
If you choose "Stats only" or "Allow both", this site counts page visits, audio sample plays, timer use and clicks to Gumroad checkout. These totals help me understand which tools and content are useful. They count events, not unique people, and a checkout click is not a completed purchase.
The counter stores daily totals in this site's Cloudflare D1 database, grouped by UTC day, event type, page and a fixed set of source, campaign and creative labels. This statistics database contains no IP addresses, full URLs, referring URLs, task text, email addresses, session IDs or other personal identifiers. Cloudflare still processes technical request data to deliver the service, as described under server logs above.
Daily totals are kept in a rolling 90-day reporting window; older totals are deleted when counting next runs. The counter sets no cookies and creates no visitor identifier. Your consent choice is saved separately in local storage on this device.
These counts are opt-in. Ignoring the banner or choosing "No thanks" keeps them off. A previous Grow choice does not enable them. Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track also keeps them off, even if you previously allowed stats. You can withdraw consent at any time using "Privacy choices" in the footer; withdrawal stops new counts and does not identify or remove your contribution from existing anonymous totals.
Do you have to provide any data?
You can browse the site and use the free tools without opting into anonymous counts or Grow. Your email address is needed only if you want the free guide and newsletter delivered to you. The technical processing needed to deliver the website still takes place.
Who helps me run this site (service providers and recipients)
I use a small number of services in connection with this site. Here is who they are and what role they play:
- MailerLite (UAB "MailerLite", Vilnius, Lithuania, EU) — my email platform and data processor: it stores newsletter signups and sends the emails on my behalf. See the MailerLite Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) — hosting, content delivery and the D1 database holding this site's optional anonymous daily counts, acting as my processor; processes technical request data as described above. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
- Mediavine, Inc. (USA) — optional reader features and audience analytics through Grow, loaded only with your consent (see the cookies section below).
Companies you deal with directly (not my processors)
Some links on this site take you to companies that are responsible for their own data handling:
- Gumroad, Inc. (USA) — when you buy the Focus Kit, Gumroad is the seller ("merchant of record"). Your payment details, order data, and delivery are handled entirely by Gumroad under its own privacy policy and terms. I never see your payment information.
- ClickBank (USA) — some links on this site are affiliate links that go through ClickBank. These links carry a tracking parameter so the seller knows the referral came from me. Once you click through, ClickBank's privacy policy applies.
Campaign links
Links may carry short campaign labels (source, medium, campaign and content) so I can compare which content leads to purchases in Gumroad. These labels are passed through links; this feature sets no cookies or browser storage. Recognised referring sites may be reduced to a source name such as Google or YouTube. No task text, email address, full referring URL or personal identifier is added. Gumroad records visits and purchases under its own privacy policy.
Cookies and local storage
Here is the honest current state:
- The MailerLite signup form script may set functional identifiers (such as ml_guid, plus small values that remember whether you have already seen or submitted a form). These exist so the form works properly — they are not advertising trackers.
- The free tools keep task text and preferences on your device, as described above.
- Your anonymous-stats and Grow choices are stored separately in local storage on this device. Opening "Privacy choices" does not change either saved choice; selecting an option does.
- The anonymous counter sets no cookies or visitor identifiers. Grow may set analytics and reader-feature cookies only after you explicitly opt in.
"Allow both" opts into anonymous counts and Grow by Mediavine (Mediavine, Inc., US), which provides reader features and audience analytics using cookies and identifiers. "Stats only" allows the anonymous counter and keeps Grow off. "No thanks" turns both optional features off. A browser privacy signal still keeps the anonymous counter off. Every choice leaves the site's tools available.
You can change your choices at any time through "Privacy choices" in the footer. If Grow is already running and you withdraw its consent, the page reloads to stop it running. A Grow choice saved before the anonymous counter was introduced does not opt you into the counter.
Data leaving the EU
Some of the services I use are based in the United States: Cloudflare and, if you opt in, Mediavine. Where your data reaches them, the transfer is protected by their certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (covered by an EU adequacy decision) and, where needed, by EU Standard Contractual Clauses under GDPR Art. 46.
Gumroad and ClickBank are also US companies, but you interact with them directly, and they are responsible for their own transfer safeguards under their own privacy policies linked above.
How long I keep your data
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Unsubscribing stops all emails immediately; if you also want your data fully erased rather than just marked as unsubscribed, email me and it will be deleted.
- Server logs: retained by Cloudflare only for a short period under its own retention policy, then deleted.
- Anonymous daily counts: a rolling 90-day reporting window in the site's Cloudflare D1 database; older totals are deleted when counting next runs.
- Local storage on your device: under your control; clear it anytime in your browser.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can, at any time and free of charge:
- ask what data I hold about you (access);
- have it corrected (rectification);
- have it deleted (erasure);
- have its processing restricted;
- receive it in a portable format (data portability);
- object to processing based on legitimate interest;
- withdraw consent at any time — this doesn't affect processing that happened before you withdrew.
Just email hello [at] dailyfocusritual.com and I'll handle it.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Hungary that is the NAIH — Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (www.naih.hu). If you live elsewhere in the EU, you can complain to your local data protection authority instead.
Things I don't do
- I don't sell your personal data. To anyone. Ever.
- I don't use automated decision-making or profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects on you (GDPR Art. 22).
- This site is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a child has signed up, email me and I'll delete the data.
Changes to this policy
If how this site handles data changes, I'll update this page and the effective date at the top. The current version is always at this address.
Questions? hello [at] dailyfocusritual.com — a real person reads it.
